As we commemorate our 44th year in the industry, it’s an opportune moment to delve into the rich history of Everyman Driving Experiences. Formerly known as Everyman Motor Racing, we stand as the UK’s premier provider of driving adventures, offering everything from supercars to rally and HGV experiences, and even junior programs. But our journey began back in 1980 as a motor racing company, and since then, we’ve evolved into a driving force in the industry.

A Storied Legacy

Everyman Driving’s roots trace back to its inception in 1980 as Everyman Motor Racing, founded to cater to the fervent desires of racing enthusiasts seeking adrenaline-fueled experiences. Over the years, the company garnered a reputation for delivering exceptional driving adventures, attracting a diverse clientele eager to experience the thrill of the track.

However, it wasn’t until 1992, with the arrival of Darren, our current Managing Director, that Everyman Driving entered a new era of growth and innovation. Darren’s passion for driving and unwavering commitment to excellence propelled the company forward, setting the stage for its transformation into a driving experience powerhouse.

Under Darren’s leadership, Everyman Driving underwent significant changes, including a pivotal relocation to Prestwold in 2010/11. This strategic move not only elevated the quality of our offerings but also cemented Prestwold as an iconic venue for automotive enthusiasts. With its historic charm and scenic surroundings, Prestwold became the perfect backdrop for our diverse range of driving experiences.

From RAF Base to Driving Haven

Prestwold Driving Center, now renowned for its exhilarating driving experiences, has a fascinating history rooted in its days as Wymeswold Airfield during World War II. Serving as a training ground for pilots operating Vickers Wellington bomber planes, the airfield played a crucial role in the war effort. From 1942 until 1969, it served as a vital hub for the Royal Air Force (RAF), hosting various units and training programs.

Initially housing the No. 28 Operational Training Unit (OTU), Wymeswold Airfield saw the training of bomber crews during the war. Subsequently, it underwent transitions to accommodate transport aircrew instruction and later served as a fighter station for No. 504 Squadron. Despite the conclusion of its RAF chapter in 1969, Wymeswold continued to witness aviation activities until the departure of aviation firms and training schools marked the end of this era.
