Instantly recognisable and still one of the most beautiful cars on the road, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage is an industry pin-up. It's been on sale since 2006, but it still looks great, and constant revisions and updates mean the V8 Vantage is still able to compete against rivals such as the Jag F-Type and Porsche 911.

As makers add turbochargers to their cars to meet ever-stricter emissions targets, the naturally aspirated engine is falling out of favour, and in some ways the R8 is a fantastic last hurrah. From its deep growl at low revs through to the thrilling metallic howl as you close in on the 8,500rpm red line, it sounds every bit as exciting as you’d expect from a supercar.
